Anyone who’s been to camp knows: camp changes people. For the rest of their lives, the sound of a crackling campfire will bring back memories of the magical summer that made them who they are. At YMCA Camp Minikani, kids can just be kids. In our natural setting – free of technology and the pressures of school and home – campers thrive and discover things inside themselves they never knew existed. Lifelong friendships are formed, independence is sparked, and laughter and singing is heard throughout the camp from morning until night.

Our counselors focus on personal goal setting and meeting the unique needs of each camper. Camp Minikani provides encouraging adult supervision, while giving each camper a balance of their choice of large- and small-group activities.

Traditional Overnight Camp
Ages 8 - 13
Offered in one or two-week sessions

Minisession Ages 7 - 12

Overnight campers have the opportunity to explore nature, try new activities, gain independence, and make lasting friendships and memories. Campers choose their own activities and also participate in counselor-planned activities for their whole cabin group.

Explorers Camp
Ages 13* - 14

Your child’s first week is spent at Camp Minikani, building a strong community bond, learning important skills. During the second week, Explorers head to beautiful northern Wisconsin to backpack, tent camp, and canoe. Please register early: Explorer programs are limited to 48 campers per session. This program is also a prerequisite for our leadership training program.

Sessions Offered:  1, 2, 3, 3B, 4

*Campers must be 13 by June 15

**Explorers may not request cabin mates.  Please refer to the Explorer Handbook for more information.

Master Explorers Camp
Ages 14* - 15

For campers who have already participated in an Explorer session and are ready to take the next step in their outdoor challenge journey. Campers will spend a portion of the first week at camp preparing for their trips before heading to the Rhinelander base camp and finally the Apostle Islands. Campers will kayak on Lake Superior exploring the islands and will have the opportunity to explore wildlife trails, old lighthouses, and sand stone cliffs. Our trained staff will be accompanied by a professional outfitter to safely guide us during our adventure. Like the Explorers, Master Explorers will utilize Camp Birchrock as a base camp but will participate in extended overnight canoe and hiking trips. The bonds of friendship and skills that campers build during this two-week program are unforgettable!

Session Offered: 1B, 2B

*Campers must be 14 by June 15

**Explorers may not request cabin mates.  Please refer to the Explorer Handbook for more information.
